About us

Why we started

Young people were risking dangerous journeys to Europe and America — because the opportunity to build a life didn't exist at home.

The people behind Hope & Future are connected to East Africa and kept seeing the same pattern repeat — families losing children to a journey that too often ended badly, taken for want of any alternative. We began working together in 2023 and were formally established as a Norwegian association in 2025.

How we work

Communities ask. We build it with them.

1

Communities come to us

Projects start with direct requests from the communities themselves, not from an office in Norway.

2

Local people do the work

Our staff and volunteers on the ground run each project, alongside local partners.

3

The community contributes

Communities put in their own labour and, where they can, materials. It's a partnership.

Being straight with you

We're new, and we're open about it

Hope & Future began working together in 2023 and was formally established in Norway in 2025. Until now we have funded our work independently, without external support — which is part of why we don't yet publish detailed figures for some of our earlier campaigns.

New Beginning is the first project we are documenting publicly from the start: what it costs, what it delivers, and what changes for the families involved. That is the standard we intend to hold ourselves to from here.
